The Massie Murder: The Most Infamous Legal Case in Hawaii’s History

“The Massie Case was more than a true-crime drama. It was a pivotal moment in the history of Hawaii, one that exposed a white supremacist social order (both locally and nationwide) and provided the seedbed for subsequent change throughout the islands,” says Stannard in his book, “Honor Killing.”

…A neglected gravestone in Kalihi, where a victim of vigilante justice is buried, is the only physical reminder of a trial that made national headlines.

What Working At McDonald’s Taught Me About Privilege

Had I gone to a manager and complained that I become anxious when the restaurant is busy or that hearing complaints from customers made me nervous, the manager would have concluded that this was simply not the right job for me.

…Before you encourage someone to practice “self care” in its current definition, think about in what situations this is actually useful or feasible advice

…We must remember that putting oneself first is the essence of privilege, and that, in order to grow, we must leave this selfish mindset behind.

The Drinking Trends We Want To See This Year And The Ones We’re Kicking To The Curb

Not only are these diet alcohols not good, they’re also pretty offensive. Ahhh… A HONY inspired break from the bad news.

I think it is patently unfair and -in the short, medium, and long run- totally inefficient to judge schools, students, and teachers with a set of one-size-fits-all numbers. Students are not one size fits all. Many triumphs and tragedies are hidden in averages and means. That said…

Given the starting point for most of these students, this school’s numbers are incredibly impressive.

In hindsight, Bill Cosby’s old books on love, sex and family are incredibly creepy

“If a girl wandered on to a football field where I was playing,” he writes of his sports-obsessed childhood, “I might make knocking her down part of my fly pattern, for a girl was only an honorary human being; and if my roller skating assumed a certain grand sweep, a girl or two might hit the cement, not an unfitting position for such a lesser part of humanity.”
