SF will wipe thousands of marijuana convictions off the books

San Francisco will retroactively apply California’s marijuana-legalization laws to past criminal cases, District Attorney George Gascón said Wednesday — expunging or reducing misdemeanor and felony convictions going back decades.

The unprecedented move will affect thousands of people whose marijuana convictions brand them with criminal histories that can hurt chances of finding jobs and obtaining some government benefits.

Proposition 64, which state voters passed in November 2016, legalized the recreational use of marijuana in California for those 21 and older and permitted the possession up to 1 ounce of cannabis. The legislation also allows those with past marijuana convictions that would have been lesser crimes — or no crime at all — under Prop. 64 to petition a court to recall or dismiss their cases.

Rather than leaving it up to individuals to petition the courts — which is time-consuming and can cost hundreds of dollars in attorney fees — Gascón said San Francisco prosecutors will review and wipe out convictions en masse.

WH Withdraws Wholly Unqualified and Grossly Inept Nominee for Environmental Council

During the confirmation hearing, Hartnett White struggled to answer basic questions about science and was accused of plagiarizing some of her written responses. She faced a backlash from lawmakers who called her testimony “embarrassing,” while hundreds of scientists also came out firmly against her nomination, warning the Senate her views on climate change were “dangerous.”

Trump Accused FBI Agent Who Wrote Letter That Helped Get Trump Elected of ‘Treason’

FBI agent Peter Strzok helped draft a letter that, in the final days of the 2016 presidential campaign, signaled the re-opening of a probe into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s emails, CNN reported Wednesday.

He worked on both the Clinton probe as well as the Russia probe when it was in its early stages, and later joined special counsel Robert Mueller’s team.

Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele just told evangelicals to “shut up” on live TV

Michael Steele, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee, has made it clear that he feels evangelical leaders who continue to support President Donald Trump have lost their moral authority.

…”I have a very simple admonition at this point: Just shut the hell up and don’t ever preach to me about anything ever again. I don’t want to hear it,” Steele told NBC.

Steele added, “After telling me how to live my life, who to love, what to believe, what not to believe, what to do and what not to do and now you sit back and the prostitutes don’t matter? The grabbing the you-know-what doesn’t matter? The outright behavior and lies don’t matter? Just shut up.”

Satanic Temple victorious over Missouri in abortion rights showdown

On Tuesday, the Temple argued their case in front of the Missouri Supreme Court after convincing an appeals court that the state’s mandatory 72-hour waiting period and ultrasound viewing before having an abortion violates their religious freedom.

The Temple spoke on behalf a member they refer to as “Mary Doe,” who claimed the law is counter to her religious beliefs. Mary Doe says that back in May of 2015, she was forced to view an ultrasound of her fetus and required to read a booklet that stated life “begins at conception.”

“Specifically, her letter advised she has deeply held religious beliefs that a nonviable fetus is not a separate human being but is part of her body and that abortion of a nonviable fetus does not terminate the life of a separate, unique, living human being,” the case summary stated according to NBC News.

Air Force One’s new refrigerators cost $24 million – CNNPolitics

When he was running for president, Trump boasted he would swap out Air Force One with his private jet and has been fiercely critical of the cost of the new Air Force One program in the past, stating “costs are out of control” and “cancel order!” in a December 2016 tweet.

But since taking office, Trump — like his predecessors — has traveled aboard the Boeing-made VC-25 aircraft, the latest version of which entered service in 1990.

Seems like a wee bit much to spend on an item not worth 1/1000th of that price tag, on a plane that is due to be decommissioned soon.

Then again…

Trump’s crassly blatant hypocrisy and sheer incompetence (both as a man and as a leader) knows no bounds,.

More women unconvinced that Al Franken’s resignation was best for women

More than 30 Democratic senators — at least a third of them women — called on the former comedian to leave Congress, but the pushback those lawmakers are now receiving, even from women, reveals just how differently some women view the way lawmakers should respond to the sexual mistreatment of women.

Susie Tompkins Buell, a longtime donor to Democratic women senators …described the push for Franken’s departure as “unfair,” “cavalier” and somewhat politically motivated — “a stampede,” “like a rampage,” she said, speaking in stark terms about senators she has backed for years, naming Gillibrand in particular.

“They need to know that some of their biggest supporters are questioning why they did that,” Buell said. “We have to do things conscientiously and fairly. He didn’t have the chance to defend himself.”

Nearly 6 in 10 — 57 percent — of Minnesota women did not want Franken to leave office, according to a Public Policy Polling survey.

…“If we set this precedent in the interest of demonstrating our party’s solidarity with harassed and abused women, we’re only going to drain the swamp of people who, however flawed, still regularly vote to protect women’s rights and freedoms. The legislative branch will remain chockablock with old, white Republican men who regard women chiefly as sex objects and unpaid housekeepers, and we’ll show them how staunchly Democrats oppose their misogynistic attitudes by handing them more power.”

Another big bad cop turns out to be a weak, spineless wuss.

Think of all the people he treated without humanity or compassion and here he is breaking down like a little child in the face of consequences for his own actions. Typical.
