Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment waiting game paid off for Democrats

Pelosi, about as wily a political operative as there is — the same can be said of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell — bided her time, resisting impatient young guns in her caucus who wanted to move much earlier, for two reasons: She knew that Trump, being Trump, would keep handing her more and more rope with which to hang him — and he didn’t disappoint.  …She also knew that public opinion wasn’t sufficient to warrant impeachment proceedings.

Hate crime trial launches today for former Bordentown Township police chief Frank Nucera Jr. – CBS News

For officers who are charged over excessive force, courts and juries are often reluctant to second guess an officer’s actions on the job, according to Stinson. But Stinson said he’s not sure whether that will hold true in the Nucera trial because of the “allegations of blatant racial discrimination and violence based on race by a police chief.”

…Racism and bigotry in law enforcement “destroys the integrity of the judicial system as a whole” because any an officer’s racist beliefs would likely drive who they choose to arrest or target, said Beirich, of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

…”There’s nothing more dangerous than a person who has a gun and has authority over someone who is motivated by hate,” Beirich said.

Black Voters Sue Over Mississippi’s Jim Crow-Era Election Law

Since Reconstruction in Mississippi — the state with the highest percentage population of African-Americans — there has not been a single black statewide office holder.

…The framers explicitly stated, “It is the manifest intention of this Convention to secure to the State of Mississippi ‘white supremacy,’ ” according to the journal of the proceedings.

…To that end, they adopted a two-tiered path to win statewide office, like governor or attorney general. Candidates must get both a majority of the popular vote, and win in a majority of Mississippi’s 122 state house districts, (only 42 of which are majority black). Otherwise, the state house of representatives gets to decide who wins.

Column: Answers to my woke son about Joe Biden

My son, for example, bashes Biden for sponsoring the 1994 crime bill that many blame for accelerating mass incarceration, locking up a disproportionate number of black men and women.

I come back with memories of how Biden was joined in that effort by numerous other lawmakers, including prominent black Democratic lawmakers and other community leaders who were alarmed by the drug wars and other violence that seemed to rage out of control at the time.

My son bashes Biden for working with southern segregationist Democrats years ago on the Senate Judiciary Committee. I come back with the unexciting reality that, to get things done in Congress, you sometimes have to work with those with whom you disagree.

And my son bashes Biden for opposing school busing policies that were imposed on his Delaware constituency years ago. I come back with memories of how a lot of black people were lukewarm or flatly opposed to having their children bused across town in efforts that too often led to resegregation, instead of using money to improve everybody’s schools.

…Roohr also said Nucera directed K-9 officers to use police dogs to intimidate black people.

Who cares if the officers testifying are doing because they ‘knew his behavior was wrong’ or if they just don’t like him.

Anytime an officer provides evidence to the courts of an other officer stepping outside the lines of common decency and their job purview it’s more than a good. thing.

Without consequences for bad behavior police officers are nothing more than armed gang.

Did you not learn anything from the last year?

Do not talk smack on other Democats.

Do not attack those who came before you. If they were better than what came before than DO NOT attack them.  You look small minded and petulant doing so,

This is no way an endorsement or preference for the Vice President but too progressive an approach to the Primary will alienate the middle in the General Election. You know the one that the Democrats really need to win?

Sit down and STFU Congresswoman.

Sexist Airways boss in ‘heartfelt apology’ for sexist remark

Asked at a news conference on Tuesday about female employment among Middle East airlines and whether his job could be done by a woman, Mr al Baker said: “Of course it has to be led by a man, because it is a very challenging position”.

…In 2017, he apologised after calling US flight attendants “grandmothers” during a trade row with US airlines, prompting an airline union to accuse him of sexism and age discrimination.

…In a statement on Wednesday, Mr al-Baker said Qatar  [Sexist] Airways fully supported [giving lipservice to] gender equality.

United passenger David Dao says he ‘just cried’ after he saw video of himself being dragged off a plane

Dao, speaking publicly for the first time about the encounter that left him bloodied, said that he woke up in a hospital with no memory of being taken off the plane.

Cell phone footage showed security officers dragging Dao by his arms and legs down an aisle before takeoff from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on April 9, 2017, after he refused to surrender his seat on the packed plane for commuting crew members.

The incident left him with a concussion, two lost teeth and a broken nose. It ultimately led to a financial settlement with United and the firing of two Chicago aviation security officers, and spurred airlines to change some ways they do business.

…United had offered compensation to anyone willing to give up their seats; Dao apparently was chosen when not enough people volunteered. Four Chicago aviation officers arrived when he declined to leave.

In a video shot by two passengers sitting behind Dao, he repeatedly refused to get off the flight, telling officers he was a physician and had to work in the morning.

…Joya and Forest Cummings told CNN that Dao was not belligerent and got only mildly upset when a second officer arrived and demanded he leave the plane, they said.

An initial letter sent to United employees appeared to blame Dao, referring to him as “disruptive and belligerent,” and praised employees for following “established protocols.” But United came under fire for how it responded as the footage went viral.

…The dust-up had national repercussions.

United made several policy changes or clarifications. Among them: The airline won’t remove boarded passengers involuntarily — or call authorities — unless there’s a safety or security issue.

Though United said the 2017 flight was simply full, and not overbooked, Southwest Airlines announced it would no longer overbook flights in an attempt to ensure ticket-holding customers would not be booted. Delta Air Lines and United said they would, if space is needed, offer volunteers up to $10,000 to give up their seats voluntarily.

American Airlines sorry after ‘telling woman to cover up’ – BBC News

She alleged a flight attendant first asked her to step off the plane, then described her outfit as “inappropriate” to fly and asked if she had a jacket to “cover up” with.

…After attempts to defend her outfit apparently failed and her son become upset, Dr Rowe said she felt forced to wrap a blanket around her waist and return to her seat feeling “humiliated”.

…”Our bodies are over sexualized as women and we [are forced to] ADJUST to make everyone around us comfortable.”

“I’ve seen white women with much shorter shorts board a plane without a blink of an eye.”

On Tuesday the airline said they had apologised to Dr Rowe and her son and refunded their travel.

Cop Charged With Punching Black Student, Lying About It

When police arrived, the school resource officers already had one juvenile in custody and the aunt of the child who was attacked was at the scene. The second video shows the officer approaching the aunt while yelling: “You want to go to jail? You want to go to jail? Let’s go!”

When the teen steps in between his aunt and the cop, Lawson punches the kid squarely in the face, sending the boy to the pavement.

When the cops wrote up the incident report, they claimed that the student “attempted to assault the officer,” and that he only delivered an “open palm” to the student. According to a federal lawsuit filed by the victim’s parents, Lawson ordered the child’s aunt to stop recording the incident and tried to confiscate the aunt’s phone. Lawson arrested the 17-year-old, charging resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

….[Lawson] told internal investigators that the child had balled up his fists, “bladed his body” and gave him an angry look.

…although the child’s face wasn’t visible in the footage, both hands were open and not making a fist. Lawson’s incident report also said that he immediately handcuffed the youngster but the video shows him kneeing the high-schooler in the chest.

….Lawson will turn himself in to authorities and face the charges of misdemeanor battery, false information (a misdemeanor), felony perjury, felony obstruction of justice and official misconduct—a felony.

[and then the prosecutor said some petty shit, casting aspirations at the Aunt of the boy was originally attacked. Because… douchebag’s gonna douchnozzle and nothing say douchenozzle like getting all patronizing and Trump level self-righteous in an attempt to divert attention away from the real asswipe in the situation.]

Trump tells reporters border wall is ‘wired’, immediately after army general asks him not to discuss in public

[Trump] said: “They’re wired, so that we will know if somebody is trying to break through.”

Turning to Lt Gen Todd Semonite, chief of the US Army Corps of Engineers, Mr Trump added: “You may want to discuss that a little bit, general.”

…“Sir, there could be some merit in not discussing it.”

To nervous laughter from officials, Mr Trump continued: “Ok. I like that. That was a great answer. I’ll just tell you they’re wired, ok? They’re wired. They’re technologically very advanced, all set up for cameras any place we want.

“They’re all wired out for drone technology. Anything you want, we have.”

The fence posts themselves are steel tubes, filled with concrete and rebar and topped with flat panels. ”It’s the Rolls-Royce version,” Mr Trump said.

The Secret History of Fort Detrick, the CIA’s Base for Mind Control Experiments

These were the most gruesome experiments the U.S. government ever conducted on human beings. In one of the them, seven prisoners in Lexington, Kentucky, were given multiple doses of LSD for 77 days straight. In another, captured North Koreans were given depressant drugs, then dosed with potent stimulants and exposed to intense heat and electroshock while they were in the weakened state of transition. These experiments destroyed many minds and caused an unknown number of deaths. Many of the potions, pills and aerosols administered to victims were created at Detrick.

…A decade of intense experiments taught Gottlieb that there are indeed ways to destroy a human mind. He never, however, found a way to implant a new mind in the resulting void. The grail he sought eluded him. MK-ULTRA ended in failure in the early 1960s. “The conclusion from all these activities,” he admitted afterward, “was that it was very difficult to manipulate human behavior in this way.”

Nonetheless Fort Detrick, as it was renamed in 1956, remained Gottlieb’s chemical base. After the end of MK-ULTRA, he used it to develop and store the CIA’s arsenal of poisons. In his freezers, he kept biological agents that could cause diseases including smallpox, tuberculosis and anthrax as well as a number of organic toxins, including snake venom and paralytic shellfish poison. He developed poisons intended to kill Cuban leader Fidel Castro and Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba.

The White House would like you to abandon all common sense on ‘locked and loaded’

After all, the words “locked and loaded” directly imply that weapons are, uh, locked and loaded to be delivered at the push of a button.

Except it doesn’t!

…So, when Trump said that we are “locked and loaded depending on verification,” what he was talking about was the “realities that we’re all far safer and more secure domestically from energy independence?”

Come on, man. It’s not even close.

…This is an administration that has repeatedly tried to tell the public that what they are hearing and seeing isn’t what they are hearing and seeing. Literally.

“Just remember, what you are seeing and what you are reading is not what’s happening,” Trump said in July 2018. “Just stick with us, don’t believe the crap you see from these people, the fake news.”
