Meghan McCain Lashes Trump: You’re OK With Inviting the Taliban but Not Hurricane Refugees

McCain, meanwhile, said that “the humanity seems completely removed” from Trump, adding that the “best part of America” is that we’re supposed to be the “shining beacon on the hill” and yet the president is now refusing to help people devastated by a natural disaster.

This prompted co-host Whoopi Goldberg to openly wonder how anyone can look at this and say that this isn’t a racial problem, considering the vast majority of the Bahamian survivors are black.

South Dakota Democratic Party offices closing

According to the Federal Election Commission, the South Dakota Democratic Party started the most recent reporting period in July with $31,267 but ended the month with just $3,181; which is a trend the party has seen during the past year.

Additionally, the SDDP receives at least $10,000 per month from the Democratic National Party, according to FEC reports.

South Dakota Democrat Chair Paula Hawks said that the decreased funds are caused by “extreme mismanagement and lack of oversight.”

Florida’s former Democratic party chair agrees to revocation of law license

Maddox, who also ran in the past for governor, attorney general and agriculture commissioner, was suspended from practicing law Aug. 15 after pleading guilty to honest-services wire fraud, honest-services mail fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

The charges were part of a federal investigation into Tallahassee city government, where Maddox served as a city commissioner. He faces a maximum of 45 years in prison and $750,000 in fines when he is sentenced in mid-November. In the Supreme Court filing, Maddox agreed to reimburse The Florida Bar for costs incurred in his disciplinary cases and to take other steps.

Alabama Democratic Party chair accuses Jones, DNC of ‘all-out attack’

“From a continuous, ‘the sky is falling’ media assault on the party and its leadership, to the DNC’s withholding $10,000 per month to Alabama, they have bombarded the Alabama Democratic Party on every side,” Worley said in a statement.

…The state and national party have been at odds since February when the DNC ordered the state party to hold new leadership elections and rewrite its bylaws to provide for representation on the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) for Hispanics, Asians, youth, LGBTQ individuals and those with disabilities.

That argument stems from a much longer one over the direction of the Alabama Democratic Party. Critics of Worley say she has done little to stem the Democrats’ repeated losses in state elections since 2010 and neglected the party infrastructure. Worley has said she is trying to pay off party debts and has little room for investment.

Here’s why Amy Klobuchar’s ‘every place, every race—every time’ logic is flawed

I’ll tell you the same thing that I tell my first-year English students when I ask them to gather sources for their essays: Be cautious and interrogate the rationale behind the candidates’ arguments because the things that come out of their mouths don’t always hold water.

The One-Two Punch That Second-Tier Democrats Are Counting On

The second-tier candidates are wary of trying to replicate the Hail Mary pass Ms. Harris heaved at the first debate in June. Her highly personal attack on Mr. Biden over busing won her a much-needed spike in donations and a lift in the polls, but her gains turned out to be fleeting and her broadside angered some voters uneasy with intraparty conflict.

…Senator Cory Booker also tangled with Mr. Biden in the second debate, but he has appeared to gain little from the encounter. Yet even as he continued to target the former vice president in New Hampshire — “We can’t make the mistake that says, ‘Oh, we got to play it safe,’” he warned Democrats — Mr. Booker also turned his attention to Ms. Warren.

“This election is not just about our plans, it’s about our heart and gut,” he said

History and Hoping for a New Hampshire Miracle

Even though it flies in the face of all the glib certainties TV pundits are fond of proclaiming …[is that] it is too soon to be writing off anyone with a credible record and proven history of winning elections (with the strong exception of Bill de Blasio and Tulsi Gabbard).

…I recall pundits declaring with voice-of-God certainty in late summer of 2015 that the only Republicans who could plausibly win the 2016 nomination were Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio.

New Hampshire voters, in particular, are late deciders—and, even then, mercurial in their selections.

“Most New Hampshire voters aren’t really paying attention yet,” said pollster Andy Smith, the director of the University of New Hampshire’s Survey Center.

…TV [and] print [news] would rather ballyhoo the shallow preferences of voters who are, in truth, still undecided than admit how much of the 2020 campaign is still in flux.

…The secret of winning a presidential nomination—or coming tantalizingly close—lies in peaking at the right moment. …”t’s a lot better to pop in January than to pop in August.”

Big Papi surprises fans with 1st pitch at Fenway

Ortiz, introduced on the public-address system as a symbol of “resilience, strength, triumph and love,” ran up the steps from the dugout to the field, appearing strong and healthy, before throwing a pitch to former teammate Jason Varitek.

…”I want to thank you for all for your prayers, all of them came home,” he told the crowd.

Ortiz also thanked his former Red Sox teammates for their visits and support, as well as some players on the Yankees who had come to see him as he was convalescing.

…Ortiz, known as Big Papi, was a 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series winner with the Red Sox from 2003 through 2016, thrilling fans with late-game dramatics in the postseason. A street across from Fenway Park has been named for the slugger.

He further endeared himself to the fans with his heartfelt and profane speech at Fenway Park days after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, urging the city to be “Boston Strong.”

Vermont is not New Hampshire

Aesthetics, however, is where the similarities between Vermont and New Hampshire end. Though the physical landscapes of these two bucolic states share much in common, their political landscapes are quite different. In fact, from a policy and political standpoint, these two neighboring states are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

With annual state spending equivalent to 17% of state GDP, Vermont has the seventh largest state government in the country relative to the size of its state economy. New Hampshire, meanwhile, with state spending equaling less than 8% of GDP, has the smallest state government in the country except for Texas.

Harris briefing memo cites ‘summer slump’: report

The memo also reportedly included talking points to respond to Harris’s less frequent visits to New Hampshire.

“You haven’t traveled to New Hampshire as frequently as some of your Democratic rivals,” Politico reports the “Briefing and Talking Points” memo read. “Is the state a priority for your campaign?”

Um, yup.

There are too many good choices to bother with one who doesn’t seem to give a crap about your point of view or your vote.

This is N.H., not L.A. No one is going to swallow polished but hollow lipservice ’round these parts, Senator.
