King visited Hawaii a number of times during his life. Just a year before the Selma marches, he spoke at a Honolulu conference for the Hawaii State Human Rights Commission—the first committee of its kind in the United States—of which Rev. Akaka was a board member. King found the Islands’ multiethnic population and everyday society to be an inspirational source of “racial harmony” as the struggle of African Americans made headlines across the continental U.S.

Hawaii False Missile Alert: Emergency Worker Reassigned

The mistake occurred after 8 a.m. Saturday when the employee initiated an internal test of the emergency missile warning system — a drill performed regularly by the agency after it reinstated its Cold War-era nuclear warning system in response to North Korea’s ramped up ballistic missile tests. The Washington Post reports that the worker sent out a false warning after choosing “Missile alert” from the dropdown menu that initiated the internal test. He should have chosen the “Test missile alert” option instead.

Donald Trump received a bit of karma on his first trip to Hawaii as president, with protesters greeting the president with mocking signs that read, “Welcome to Kenya.”

…[Trump had pressed] Obama to the point that the president released his long-form birth certificate, showing he had been born in Hawaii.

…During the 2016 campaign, Trump [finally!] backed away from his birtherism after coming under scrutiny, saying that Obama was indeed born in the United States and that the matter was closed. 

…Hawaiian islanders also greeted Donald Trump with other mocking signs, including one that read, “Hawaii 3, Trump 0,” in reference to the state’s record in blocking Trump’s travel ban from Muslim-majority countries.

Across the nation, farm to school programs are reconnecting students to a better understanding of the food system and where their food comes from. Farm to school programs introduce students to healthier eating habits and help them become familiar with new vegetables and fruits that they and their families will then be more willing to incorporate into their own diets.

The goal of the Farm to School Initiative is to address the supply and demand issues surrounding the purchasing of local food for our State school cafeterias. The Initiative also aims to systematically increase State purchasing of local food for our school menus as well as connect our keiki* with the aina* through their food, using products from the local agricultural community.

Or is he just that unfamiliar with the United State’s entry into WWII ???

Or maybe, in a nod to the rule of law Sessions is refusing to acknowledge Hawaii’s entry to the United States because it was an illegal coup that overthrew the lawful and rightful ruling monarchy of the islands? “I really am amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific can issue an order that stops the president of the United States from what appears to be clearly his statutory and constitutional power,” 

…[Senator] Brian Schatz: “Mr. Attorney General: You voted for that judge. And that island is called Oahu. It’s my home. Have some respect.”

….Asked for a response from Mr. Sessions, Ian Prior, a spokesman for the Justice Department, said in an email: “Hawaii is, in fact, an island in the Pacific — a beautiful one where the attorney general’s granddaughter was born. The point, however, is that there is a problem when a flawed opinion by a single judge can block the president’s lawful exercise of authority to keep the entire country safe.”

(The State of Hawaii is a chain of islands, one of which is also called Hawaii; the judge’s chambers, however, are in Honolulu, which is on the island of Oahu.)

1.) I haven’t stopped laughing about this.

2.) Some get Sessions and his staff some geography lessons. Hawaii is a state. It shares the same name as an island in that state. Hawaii is an island in Hawaii, but it’s not the one where the Judge in question is. Also, the state of Hawaii encompasses many islands, the majority of which are not named Hawaii.

3.) If Sessions’ knowledge of the laws of this country truly does not include a basic understanding of how and why a Federal Judge can issue a stay on an Executive Order then he isn’t particularly well suited to his job, is he?

4.) What pedestrian old-white-man racist bullshit.

5.) The upside is that his kind will die out sooner than later.
