“We know it is Black History Month when you hear somebody say, ‘Heyyy, Michelle! Girl, you look so good!’”

I crap on him a lot for his approach to his job but just speaking as people, they really are the cutest couple.

Dear Black People: This HBCU VS PWI Battle Is Fucking Stupid » VSB

Also, while I’m usually not in the business of playing the “This is what Black people should and shouldn’t do” game, I can’t think of any dumber exercise than a group of Black people insulting, downplaying, dismissing, and discounting the college experiences of other Black people because of the university they chose to attend. And, as well as being dumb as fuck, it’s racist. Yes, racist. By reflexively devaluing the merits of HBCUs you are no different from a White person who believes traditionally Black entities are inherently inferior. And by insulting Blacks who chose to attend PWIs, you are no different from the White person who believes that any Black person who chooses to deviate from their idea of what the “universal Black experience” should be is somehow less Black.

That said, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that there’s a very real and specifically American context to HBCU grads being defensive. Because it’s the business of America to devalue both the contributions and the value of Black Americans, and this sickness is so pervasive that it has infected many of us (Black Americans) too. So, it’s understandable when an HBCU grad defending this value and these contributions crosses that thin line separating “wagon circling” from active antagonism. But it being understandable doesn’t make it right.

State agency fines Fla. hospital that forced dying woman from ER

57-year-old Barbara Dawson collapsed and died in December after being forcibly removed from the hospital’s emergency room by police officer.

State agency fines Fla. hospital that forced dying woman from ER

Nuh-uh, $45k is not enough for killing a woman. The officer needs to be demoted and suspended without pay during the investigation. The doctors in charge should be charged with negligent homicide and whoever made the call to have her arrested should be jailed for improper use of public resources.

A woman’s life and dignity is worth than a measly $45k.

Oh, and Florida is a such a shit stain on the entire country!

Black Woman Creates Black Women Superhero Universe – The Root

^^^^^Read how this shit was captioned and then peep this quote from the article: ” I also could easily have made a black superhero universe but I wanted one that more accurately depicted the global community. Everyone deserves to see themselves in their entertainment.”

The title is the opposite of the freaking article! Fucking click-bait bullshit.

In the Safe Spaces on Campus, No Jews Allowed – The Tower

Disclaimer: To me,  Zionist = Bigot.  There is no way you can dissuade me from that position unless you produce a Zionist who places the same value on Palestinian life and Israeli Jewish life. So already I’m not going to have a lot of sympathy for anyone who self-identifies as a Zionist.
That said, I don’t have much sympathy for any of the students in this story or the group at their so-called safe space. They all sound like self-involved little assholes.

Paul Hamilton speaks of ‘heartbreaking’ detention by Home Office officials after leave to remain application refused

Dr Hamilton, who graduated from Birmingham in July 2015 after completing a doctorate on Shakespeare’s influence on American literature in the 19th century, was detained on 17 January after immigration officials visited his home in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Asked what was the first sign that something had gone wrong with the application, he said: “When they [immigration officials] knocked on my door and told me they were arresting me.”

He said: “All they had to do was serve me papers and say: ‘I’m sorry your application was rejected – you need to leave the country.’ ”

“The sergeant there refused to process me because he said this was completely ridiculous.* And he got into an argument with the immigration officer that went on the entire afternoon,” Dr Hamilton said.

A Home Office notice given to Dr Hamilton, seen by THE, states that he was detained because “your removal from the United Kingdom is imminent” and “you do not have enough close ties (eg. family or friends) to make it likely that you will stay in one place”.

“The official reason given was that I don’t have family in the area, which is the position every single international student is in…So if you [as an overseas student] apply for further leave to remain, it means that basically they can just arrest you,” he said.

North Carolina voter-ID trial begins

Inside a federal courthouse here, attorneys for the Justice Department and the NAACP argued that the law passed by the Republican-led North Carolina General Assembly intentionally discriminates against African-Americans and Latinos who disproportionately lack one of the required forms of photo identification. “The state should be making it easier for people to engage in the fundamental right to vote, not harder.”
