Turnipseed on Wallace’s appeal to the working class

Yeah, he appealed to the working man to the exclusion of black people, he did that. I mean, …it would be fine if the blacks joined along if they wanted to keep things the way they were. And that is segregated schools and all the other things that he fought so long and hard for in his career as Governor of Alabama. Fighting desegregation, fighting civil rights, was the center point of what he did. He appealed to the blue collar constituency, the working class that really have more in common with blacks than they have divisions. But he was a master at driving that division, you know, like us and them. He knew how to do us and them politics, the old southern politics.

Striking parallels to current events.

The PostScript : Tom Turnipseed Turned Around

Turnipseed is a board member of the Carolina Peace Resource Center, which advances peace through research and education, and the S.C. Hispanic Leadership Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the Hispanic community. He is former Chairman of the Board of the Center for Democratic Renewal, formerly the National Anti-Klan Network which is an Atlanta-based civil rights organization.  He is the 2005 honorary Co-Chair of the NAACP.

These achievements seem incompatible with a man who was once a spokesman for former Alabama Gov. George Wallace, one of the South’s most notorious segregationists.

Turnipseed did not simply change his mind. He grew. He opened his eyes to civil unrest and injustice and took active steps to change the world around him. Turnipseed’s story is a story of evolution.

In Dallas response, Marco Rubio shows why he may be future of GOP

During a press conference on July 8, Rubio said that anyone who is not black will “never fully understand the experience of being black in America, but we should all understand why our fellow Americans in the African American community are angry.” Rubio acknowledged that much progress has been made in race relations over the last few decades, but that “millions of our fellow Americans feel they are treated differently, and they are scared.”

Meet the Young Black Doctor Who Opened a Pharmacy in NC

Martez: I wanted the patients to get out of my pharmacy the same things they could get from a retail store like personal hygiene items, vitamin supplements, drinks, food, etc. I also wanted to be able to offer the wellness component too because I felt like this was something that would set my pharmacy apart. So with that, we do compounding which is when the medication isn’t available in a certain formulation, we customize it for the patient. Also genetic testing where we check the compatibility of patients with over 200 different medications and they could actually carry that test for the rest of their lives so if they’re ever diagnosed with something, we would already know what medications would work for that patient and what won’t work for them based on their genetic makeup. Also medication therapy management where I sit down with patients and do a complete workup of their medications and try to find things that may be prescribed by different doctors that can be decreased or that may be causing other complications that we can take off board to help that patient in the long run. So we focus on that wellness component and educating the patient to empower them to utilize their medication more effectively.

Gingrich: White People ‘Don’t Understand Being Black in America’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) had some surprising words on race Friday after a tragic week.

“It took me a long time, and a number of people talking to me through the years to get a sense of this,” Gingrich …told CNN. “If you are a normal white American, the truth is you don’t understand being black in America.

…White Americans ‘instinctively underestimate the level of discrimination and the level of additional risk’ facing black Americans today.

…They are substantially more likely to end up in a situation where the police don’t respect you and you could easily get killed. And sometimes for whites it’s difficult to appreciate how real that is and how it’s an everyday danger.”

Change.Org Petition Fire Jesse Williams BET Speech | HelloBeautiful

Unbelievable…

What a total fucking ignorant, self-important, loser this Eric Smith is. Awwwww, someone who looks like you created injustice and someone else was against it and this was an attack on the security of your world view? Awwww, poor, pathetic, douchebag asshole baby. Weh, weh, weh, all the way home to your comfort zone where everyone is white and no one is ever oppressed ever. Oh, wait, that’s 1950’s TV. …And this is the real world, filled with real people, who are just as important as your pathetic ass!

Also, if you do not comprehend why someone who is part black and part white might identify as black? Well, life will be too difficult for your puny, backwards, addled, ignorant brain. Just stay in bed and save the rest of us the trouble watching out for your cognitively delayed ass.

CNN anchor links U.K. ‘Brexit’ vote to xenophobia | Washington Examiner

Xenophobia and anti-immigrant views played a key role in influencing the outcome of United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union Thursday evening, said CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.

….U.K. voters were swayed largely by nationalism and xenophobia when they decided this week to ditch the EU. Her repeated claim reflected her personal analysis, but she also pointed to recent article in the Economist, which argued in favor of the U.K. staying in the EU.

Wasn’t the other name for this vote, “Let’s make the U.K. white again?”
