Then another, and another. “Lock him up, lock him up” — until a Chinese airport terminal sounded much like a latter-day Trump rally, when he and his crowds threatened his presidential campaign opponent, Hillary Clinton, with prison.

White House releases sensitive personal information of voters worried about their sensitive personal information
The White House on Thursday made public a trove of emails it received from voters offering comment on its Election Integrity Commission. The commission drew widespread criticism when it emerged into public view by asking for personal information, including addresses, partial social security numbers and party affiliation, on every voter in the country.
It further outraged voters by planning to post that information publicly.
…Unfortunately for these voters and others who wrote in, the Trump administration did not redact any of their personal information from the emails before releasing them to the public. In some cases, the emails contain not only names, but email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers and places of employment of people worried about such information being made available to the public.
…The White House does not appear to have issued any such public guidelines or warnings before many of the emails were sent.

Some female Capitol Hill journalists have recently been barred from entering the Speaker’s lobby, the private hallway connected to the House chamber, because they were wearing sleeveless dresses or open-toed shoes. That sparked complaints from reporters about selective enforcement of the dress code, which only calls for professional attire.
Ryan’s announcement came a day after Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) ridiculed the dress code during a speech on the House floor, saying she was dressed professionally, “which happens to be a sleeveless dress and open-toes shoes.”
“We also don’t need to bar otherwise accepted contemporary business attire, so look for a change on that soon.”

This comes a day after Speaker Paul Ryan announced that he is looking to modernize the dress code in the House, which was inspired by a viral CBS News story …about several female reporters who were kicked out of the Speaker’s lobby recently because they were wearing sleeveless dresses and their shoulders weren’t covered. While the supposed policy is not new, it’s been inconsistently enforced and has not been precisely outlined in the rulebooks.
The only existing House rule says that men are required to wear a coat and tie and women are supposed to wear “appropriate attire.”

Putin doesn’t care whether the U.S. standing army exceeds half a million or not, or whether the U.S. Navy has more ships. Even during the Cold War, when the Soviet Union was a much bigger country than today’s Russia, it couldn’t outspend the U.S. on defense. Today, the U.S. military vastly outnumbers the Russian one, and once other North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries are added in, Russia is dwarfed, frankly.
…Trump is doing roughly what Clinton intended to do to defeat Islamic State. He intensified the U.S. air campaign and stepped up support for rebels opposing Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. …Clinton, who established herself as a Syria hawk, likely would have acted along the same lines.
…The biggest question is whether Putin prefers the chaos, unpredictability and amateurishness of Trump’s administration or the predictable, unimaginative formulas and cliches Clinton offered during her campaign and probably would have stuck to as president.
…At some point, even laughing at the panic of U.S. political elites, as Putin’s circle has been doing for months, can get pointlessly repetitive. If Putin is learning anything from the chain of events following Trump’s election, it’s probably a deepening conviction that he can’t get any traction with the U.S. because its institutions are inherently hostile toward someone like him.

“You don’t need 2,000 miles of wall because you have a lot of natural barriers,” Trump said to reporters on Air Force One during his flight to Paris.
“You have mountains. You have some rivers that are violent and vicious. You have some areas that are so far away that you don’t really have people crossing. So you don’t need that.”

In one March 2015 exchange that appears to be between the two sisters, Andrea Manafort seems to suggest that their father bore some responsibility for the deaths of protesters at the hands of police loyal to Yanukovych during a monthslong uprising that started in late 2013.
“Don’t fool yourself,” Andrea Manafort wrote. “That money we have is blood money.”
In another hacked exchange a few months later with someone else, Andrea Manafort wrote that her father’s “work and payment in Ukraine is legally questionable.”
…Andrea Manafort indicated in a text to an associate that her father was reluctant to communicate sensitive information from his mobile devices because “Russians literally hack his phones.”
Asked if he was considering going to the authorities about the hacks, or about messages — one of which was revealed in the hack — that appeared to contain a blackmail threat, Paul Manafort, 67, said “I am preserving all my options on the hacks and blackmail and will be following my lawyer’s recommendations.”

The Ukrainian parliamentarian Leshchenko, who had played a role in exposing the documents, seized on the documents to pressure Ukrainian and American law enforcement to aggressively investigate Manafort.
…While Paul Manafort disputed the authenticity of the documents and denied receiving any off-books cash from Yanukovych’s party, the controversy forced him to step down from Trump’s campaign only days after the Times story.
