TX VOTER PHOTO ID LAW discriminates against women

Voter ID laws have a disproportionately negative effect on women. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, one third of all women have citizenship documents that do not identically match their current names primarily because of name changes at marriage.  Roughly 90 percent of women who marry adopt their husband’s last name.  That means that roughly 90 percent of married female voters have a different name on their ID than the one on their birth certificate.  An estimated 34 percent of women could be turned away from the polls unless they have precisely the right documents.

On the subject of #5…

Bernie’s response to the question about whether #BlackLivesMatter or #AllLivesMatter was well answered and an important contrast. It is also a contrast to the G.O.P. but the most important contrast his answer struck was the one between that answer and his previous comments in regard to that particular questions. Let’s not rewrite history, folks.

Is This New Bill Trying To Stop Tennessee Schools From Teaching About Islam? – MTV

MTV News spoke to Robert McCaw, Department Manager of Government Affairs at CAIR, about a controversial new bill proposed in Tennessee that some say is Islamophobic.

Is This New Bill Trying To Stop Tennessee Schools From Teaching About Islam? – MTV

Hmmmm…..

We should ban religious indoctrination in all public schools. No, seriously. We should. No more teaching from a religious bias! Teach the reality and science of climate change instead! Factual information on reproductive health and sex for young people. No more diverting women away from STEM classes because it won’t fit their “future role.” Textbooks and lessons that are 100% honest about our country’s treatment of native peoples and African-Americans before and after slavery. Equal access to information for all!

Taking religion out of it sounds pretty good. I’m guessing that that is not what the good rep has in mind though.

What Race Has to Do With Breast Cancer

Researchers provide the most detailed look yet at why minority women tend to fare worse with breast cancer

=What Race Has to Do With Breast Cancer | TIME

Why the fuck are all of those feminists who want to talk so much about race and what it has to do with feminism not bringing up shit like this? Oh, that’s right because it might actually have an impact on the lives of women. Assholes.

Palestinians kill 3 Israelis as violence mounts in ‘day of rage’

Jerusalem’s mayor calls for Arab neighborhoods to be cordoned.

Palestinians kill 3 Israelis as violence mounts in ‘day of rage’

Um, wait a second, isn’t restricting the movements of Palestinians what started this? So the mayor wants to increase resentment and the ensuing violence? Is it a prerequisite for Israeli politicians to be short-sighted bigots?

Bernie Sanders’s big black voter problem – The Washington Post

But here’s the thing: Sanders has stuck to his script about economic inequality and wealth hoarding in a campaign waged in the wake of a series of rather high-profile deaths of young, unarmed black men. So, for most black voters, the limited value of economic and even history-making political gains in the person of President Obama has never been more clear. Unless some kind of national attention is paid to what is currently a more pressing and existential issue for many African Americans, other gains seem tenuous at best. One cannot vote or grow a bank account if one is dead.

To White Feminists Who Don’t Want to Discuss Racism: Here Are 7 Things You Need to Know

To White Feminists Who Don’t Want to Discuss Racism: Here Are 7 Things You Need to Know — Everyday Feminism

Dear Author,

I too roll my eyes when I see an article entitled, “Dear White Feminists,” but apparently not for the same reasons as your preachy ass. I don’t roll my eyes because I don’t like to talk about race. Heck, for a white person, I am probably a little too comfortable talking about race for most people’s comfort.

I roll my eyes because feminist never speak in the “we” anymore. They talk in terms of “you.” …And “you” better sign onto their exceedingly better than yours version of being a progressive, a feminist, and a right thinking human being.

You want to know what is wrong with feminists of a particular ethnicity? Ask feminists of another ethnicity. It is both infuriating and disgusting to see yet another article that is all about holier-than-thou preachy division, but please go on. Please, I’m dying to read your detailed and whiny explanations of why you are a better feminist and just generally a better person than I am. Please force feed me your mass generalizations and stereotypes and please, please, please base all of them on a overly simplistic view of race.

Because like you, I am also a 2 year old and  I have no empathy for others, no over-riding belief in justice for all, no ability to see or discern subtlety, and absolutely zero awareness of the world outside my tiny little bubble of self congratulation. In fact nothing gives me a righteous sense of self-satisfaction like reading about how another white person stopped being an asshole. Well, except for reading about how, because I am white, I must be as ignorant and obnoxious as the author was before they had this trope enlightenment.

Just because you were a self-absorbed ignorant little cunt-rag at one point in your life doesn’t mean everyone of a similar ethnic background is.

Stop disguising white privilege lectures as feminism and start talking about the shared and nuanced condition of women in our society and in the world as a whole or sit down, put a fucking cork in your bullshit, and shut the fuck up.

Feminism is an actual topic outside how one checks one’s own white privilege. You want to write about race? Fine. Write about race. You want to write about how race impacts the goals of feminism, then actually write about that. I’m all ears. Until then, just admit that you’d prefer to assuage your white guilt by writing bullshit that accomplishes zilch. We are all so fucking proud of you for learning how to tie your shoes, cross the street, and realize that you -as a white person- have many advantages that you shouldn’t assume others possess. Good for fucking you.

You’re not helping, you’re not uniting, you’re not even saying anything new or profound. Step away from the obvious, stop confusing basic human consideration and manners with feminism, and find a another way to sabotage and divert the cause you trite, myopic little girl.

Now, this I agree with. Public funds should not be used to celebrate bigotry.

Somewhere, sometime, cultural sensitivity started to equal stamping out culture. In order to be sensitive to a few the obvious route is to be insensitive to all? WTF?  This is not progress people, this is bullshit.

‘I’d rather be a rebel than a slave’ is a quote from Emmeline Pankhurst, played by Streep in a new film, but for some the phrase evokes unfortunate associations

Let’s just label the experience of white women, in other countries (!!!!) as a trigger warning and be done with it.

Because being divided by race is the goal here, right??????
