CNN anchor links U.K. ‘Brexit’ vote to xenophobia | Washington Examiner

Xenophobia and anti-immigrant views played a key role in influencing the outcome of United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union Thursday evening, said CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.

….U.K. voters were swayed largely by nationalism and xenophobia when they decided this week to ditch the EU. Her repeated claim reflected her personal analysis, but she also pointed to recent article in the Economist, which argued in favor of the U.K. staying in the EU.

Well, duh…

Wasn’t the other name for this vote, “Let’s make the U.K. white again?”

Egyptian court quashes deal to transfer Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia | World news | The Guardian

Cancellation of maritime border accord that would have ceded control of two islands is a setback for Egypt’s president.

…Cairo has controlled the two islands since a transfer of power by Saudi Arabia in 1950, amid fears of confrontation with neighbouring Israel. Egypt’s blockade of the Strait of Tiran in 1967 is considered one of the main triggers of the six-day war.

News of the deal in April sparked the largest street protests in Egypt since a law effectively banning protest came into place in November 2013. More than 250 people were detained in protests against the deal on 25 April, with more than 150 of these later given prison sentences of between two and five years. While overtly organised to protest the islands transfer, the protests also served as a broad base for anti-government feeling.

Palestinian, 15, Killed as Israeli Forces Sought to Halt Stone Throwing – The New York Times

One teenager died and four were wounded, and they appeared to be innocent bystanders who were hit while the military tried to halt Palestinians who were throwing stones and firebombs.

Palestinian, 15, Killed as Israeli Forces Sought to Halt Stone Throwing – The New York Times

It was the David and Goliath story of the young boys throwing rocks and being mowed down by tanks in the 90’s that really cemented my sympathy for Palestinian youth and my disdain for the Israeli military. The good guys don’t kill children. Period.

Military says it will investigate troops’ response to rioters throwing rocks at cars that left innocent 14-year-old dead.

Murder isn’t a mistake, it is a crime. The troops need to be sanctioned, and by that I mean arrested, tried, convicted and jailed for the senseless, hateful and violent crime that they committed.

Israel: Water as a tool to dominate Palestinians

Israel deliberately denies Palestinians control over their water sources and sets the ground for water domination.

Israel: Water as a tool to dominate Palestinians – News from Al Jazeera

Absolutely the opposite of decent and humane.

I would wish their karma upon those who make decisions like this but I can’t.

…Because I would never, ever wish the truly equal level of violence, humiliation, dis-empowerment, and oppression that justice would merit on anyone. Even horrid, racist, apartheid supporting, Warsaw ghetto mimicking monsters like the ones peopling the current Israeli government…

The reborn identity: Dalai Lama hints he may come back as a girl or outside of Asia or not at all

Back in 1995, Beijing operatives kidnapped the boy the Dalai Lama had named as the Panchen Lama — who has not been seen since — and the government handpicked a replacement.

About 12 years later, Chinese officials created the so-called “Order No. Five, concerning the control and recognition of reincarnations,” the Tibetan Buddhist leader wrote on his website. “This is outrageous and disgraceful. The enforcement of various inappropriate methods for recognizing reincarnations to eradicate our unique Tibetan cultural traditions is doing damage that will be difficult to repair.”
