Islam places the primary responsibility of observing hijab not on women – but on men. It’s critical to understand this point.
People often conflate “hijab” and “headscarf”. Wearing the headscarf is one form of hijab, but men often forget that hijab is much more. And at the genesis of the hijab discussion, the Quran commands men to not stare at women and to not be promiscuous. The Quran 24:31 obliges men to observe modesty: “Say to the believing men that they restrain their eyes and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Surely, Allah is well aware of what they do.”
…This point was again illustrated when the Prophet rode with his companion Al Fadl bin Abbas. A woman described as strikingly beautiful approached the Prophet to seek his guidance on some religious matters. Al Fadl began to stare at her because of her beauty.
Noting this, the Prophet Muhammad did not scold the woman for dressing immodestly or revealing her beauty. Instead, he “reached his hand backwards, catching Al Fadl’s chin, and turned his face to the other side so that he would not gaze at her”. Thus, the Prophet Muhammad once more established that the primary burden to observe hijab rests on men.

Of course, today’s refugee crisis is very different from the southeast Asian migration of the 1970s. There are far more countries, causes, and powers involved today, and the nearly 5 million (and counting) Syrian refugees alone far outnumber the 1.3 million who left Vietnam.
All the same, as Greece turns away Syrian migrants, its Balkan neighbors close their borders, and thousands of asylum-seekers die at sea, it’s worth remembering that decades ago, despite widespread public opposition and xenophobia, a country opened its doors to those seeking safe, dry land. And they, in turn, left a lasting mark on a new home

“As part of the preparation of the new strategy, executives of Vnesheconombank met with representatives of leading financial institutes in Europe, Asia, and America multiple times during 2016,” the bank told Reuters on Monday night.
“During the talks, the existing practices of foreign development banks and promising trends were discussed,” it added. It also said the meetings took place “with a number of representatives of the largest banks and business establishments of the United States, including Jared Kushner, the head of Kushner Companies.”
That appears to conflict with the White House’s version of events, which is that Kushner met with Gorkov as a representative of Trump’s transition team.

In a meeting today with Arab-Americans and Muslims in Dearborn, Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly stood up at one point and threatened to leave after a community advocate accused the department of targeting their communities, according to meeting participants.
The tense exchange took place during a hour-long meeting at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, where Kelly met with several Arab-American and Muslim advocates as part of a visit to metro Detroit. At a separate earlier meeting with immigrant, Latino, and Chaldean advocates, some also criticized the department for allegedly targeting minority groups.

Hmmm. Ivanka did choose to take a position in her father’s administration. ….And did it in such a sleazy way that she is able to 100% avoid being held to the same legal and protocol standards as any other employee. Plus, she’s an adult and responsible for her own actions and those done in her name….

Another commenter demonstrated how the perceived injustice has gone international.

Conservatives have long wanted to reverse an Obamacare requirement that all health plans include 10 key benefits, including emergency services, drug use treatment and maternity care.
It has led some people to question why they are paying for services they say they do not need – like…
…Republican Senator Pat Roberts expressed that view on Thursday, when asked about the negotiations, saying: “I wouldn’t want to lose my mammograms.”
He later tweeted an apology: “I deeply regret my comments on a very important topic. Mammograms are essential to women’s health & I never intended to indicate otherwise.”

Self-proclaimed feminists and their litmus tests. So a woman who shaves can’t also be a feminist? Isn’t that appropriating the same standards of beauty that they say is the problem, flipping them inside out and creating yet another beauty standard women must live up to to be accredited with any worth?
Wouldn’t it be more feminist to say women don’t have to shave but if they do happen to want to shave, they are still valued as equals?
