Police Say Tasering 8-Year-Old Native American Girl Was Justified – Counter Current News

The mother of an 8-year-old Native American girl is suing police who maintain that they were justified in using a taser on the child.

Within seconds,” the officer’s electroshock weapon discharged snares into the chest of the 70-pound girl, the lawsuit reads. “The force of the electricity shot through her body, lifted her, and threw her against a wall. After the officers had stunned (the girl) into high voltage submission, they pulled the fish-hook like Taser darts from her chest, gave her emergency medical attention, bandaged the holes left by the razor-sharp hooks, and called the ambulance.”

Attorney Dana Hanna recounts the incident, saying that the “four trained police officers surrounding a 70-pound, 8-year-old Indian girl,” should have used tactics that were less violent and not so risky to the young girl’s health and possibly life. “She had a kitchen paring knife, but hadn’t cut. She was a kid throwing a tantrum. They should have made an attempt to grab the kid, not use a weapon to throw her into a wall. A Taser’s not meant to kill, but it does kill. Many people have died after being hit by a Taser by cops. It never should be used on a little child. She certainly wasn’t presenting a danger to officers.”

The girl’s father, Bobby Jones added, “I don’t fault for the police being there because they were called. They were there. But what happened while they were there is why I’m upset,” in an early interview he did with local KSFY.

Grrrrrrrrrr.

One, who the F called the cops over a tantrum? That person should have been charged!

Two, the officers should be facing jail-time for the unnecessary violence and should lose their badges for using piss poor judgement and acting like a militia instead of a force sworn to protect the public..

My message to the woman who told my daughter girls don’t like Star Wars and the man who hopes my baby is a boy | Voices | The Independent

My four-year-old daughter recently discovered Star Wars, and life will never be the same again. It’s out with Elsa and Anna, in with Han Solo and Luke Skywalker – and instead of a princess dress for Christmas, she’s already talking about lightsabers. At bath time we speak Wookiee, and she asks excitedly if, each Sunday, we can sit down to “watch the next one” (in the order they were made, of course).

…Add to that the multitude of well-meaning sentiments from friends and family: “If you have a boy, that’s when the fun really starts!”, “You’ll have your work cut out if it’s a boy!”, “Be prepared – it’ll be very physical!”

At times like this, I look at my glorious, spirited, fiercely independent little girl, clambering to the very top of the climbing frame, while boys twice her age – and size – watch nervously from below. I watch her legs wrap firmly around the metal bars, her eyes set on the slide ahead, her teeth grit together in grim determination. She gives a sharp and simple nod to my cautionary, “Be careful…”. I am proud.

The “parenting happiness gap” is real, new research confirms

It’s not just one policy, like paid parental leave, that makes the difference. It’s the magic of a package of policies spanning over a lifetime, that allow people to care for children, support them financially, and even enjoy them every once in awhile on a holiday.

Ex-Stanford swimmer’s dad calls son’s 6-month sentence for rape ‘a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action’

The father of an ex-Stanford University swimmer who was sentenced to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman last week believes his son should have received probation because the 20-year-old has already suffered for “20 minutes of action.”

On Thursday, Brock Turner was given a six-month prison sentence for his sexual assault of a woman in January 2015 outside a fraternity party on the school’s Palo Alto campus. His dad argued that Brock’s label as a sexual offender, his loss of appetite and a swimming scholarship is punishment enough.

Absolutely no question about where this young man got his skewed sense of responsibility for his own actions and the effects those actions might have on others. Piss poor parenting. It’s never absent in cases like this. It is all well and good to have your kid’s back and see the best in them but come on!

His parents should be ashamed of themselves for bringing up the inconveniences their son experienced because of his own, thoughtless, immoral,  and 100% criminal assault on an unconscious individual. His suffering will never begin to reach the level of the suffering he has inflicted on the actual victim (You know, victim… As in, not the perpetrator) in this case.

I hate to blame the parents for the actions of a legal adult but in this case I would say that they deserved to be tarred and feathered on their way out of town.

Risk is essential to childhood – as are scrapes, grazes, falls and panic

Children need to be exposed to risky play. For ‘helicopter parents’, this might be difficult – but kids need to learn to manage danger themselves.

[A] parliamentary report states that society’s risk-averse attitude to young people’s lives affects everything from school-based activities to the design of play areas, where eliminating any potential danger or cause for future litigation is the highest goal. Risk perception is like a muscle that needs to be developed and flexed.

You Have To See This Badass Prom Dress Inspired By Beyonce’s Met Gala Gown

India Ross slayed Bey’s 2015 sequin dress.

You Have To See This Badass Prom Dress Inspired By Beyonce’s Met Gala Gown

I’ve sen a lot of hate on the face space over this dress. (Strangely enough though, half of the posts used the exact same wording. “I think it’s sad when young ones today can’t/won’t be themselves but must emulate someone other than their parents like we did years ago! The dress is without class mainly because it damn near shows everything… I remember years ago the saying was the less you show the more appealing you are!!”)

Blah, blah, blah… Haters. Emulate what exactly? The amount of skin hippies showed int eh late sixties?

This young woman realized her idea and it looks fabulous. The haters need to get a grip on themselves.

Ruled ‘broken,’ Texas foster care system faces long overhaul

At 5, the girl identified as S.A. entered the Texas foster care system. Within months, she reported being raped by an older child. She was moved more than 45 times, including to psychiatric hospitals, and missed several chances for adoption because of paperwork delays. At 18, after aging out of the system, she walked into traffic and was hit by a car. At last report, she was living in a homeless shelter.

A school district encourages parents to opt their children out

The New Salem/Wendell School Committee unanimously passed a strongly-worded resolution, supporting and encouraging parents to opt their children out of PARCC tests this spring.

The resolution, passed on March 10, not only encourages parents to opt their children out of the state standardized test, it also encourages teachers and staff members to let parents know they have the choice of opting out. With this goal in mind, the district is holding a community meeting on March 28 to give parents a forum at which they can learn more and ask questions.

Someone wrote ‘Trump 2016’ on Emory’s campus in chalk. Some students said they no longer feel safe.

After Emory University students awoke to messages written in chalk around campus in support of Trump, a group protested and met with the president to decry the “intimidation.”

I’m trying not to roll my eyes here. The students’ hearts are in the right place. They just need to take their heads out of their asses.

Suppressing dissent does not alleviate it.

Being confronted with something you disagree with shouldn’t affect whether or not you feel “safe.” It isn’t about entitlement, it is about what is right.

If something bothers you, don’t whine. Confront it!
