How We Failed to Protect Kesha

Kesha, a 28-year-old woman who’s been working in the music industry for a full decade, might think she knows what’s best for her. She might think it’s in her best interest to sever all ties with the man who allegedly raped and continually hurt her, but—really—what does she know? Sony’s invested $60 million in her career, their attorneys reminded the judge—what’s an emotional and physical violation compared to that?“

Our interest is in her success,” claimed a Sony lawyer. “Our interest is in Dr. Luke’s success. They are not in the least bit mutually exclusive.” In other words, we know what’s good for her. And what’s good for her is recording six more albums with a company that heard her claims of abuse and said, “Your story means nothing.”

The Wonder Woman Movie Adds Etta Candy, Diana’s Best Friend and a Total Badass

New set pictures of Wonder Woman filming have revealed that British actress Lucy Davis is seemingly playing one of the most prominent—and hilariously great—supporting characters in Wonder Woman’s comic book history: Etta Candy. And this doesn’t appear to be the New 52 version of the character, but the amazing classic iteration from WW’s debut in the ‘40s.

“Late-breaking sexism”: why younger women aren’t excited about electing a woman president – Vox

Looking around in college or grad school, it’s easy to believe that, in the United States at least, gender equality has largely been achieved. …Women enroll in and finish college at higher rates than men. And these days, no one tells you to give up on your dreams of medical school, find a husband, and settle down.

These dynamics can be a rude awakening for young women who have excelled all their lives, often at institutions that have invested resources, time, and attention into recruiting promising women. They’re experiencing something we call “late-breaking sexism.” It’s the sudden realization that you don’t have the same opportunities as a man, that you will struggle to have both a family and a career, that your participation in the public sphere will always be caveated by your gender.

In short, that although latter-day feminist icons encourage women to “lean in,” they will be met at every step of the way by someone telling them, implicitly or explicitly, to “get back.”

Women in their late 20s and early 30s face a double reckoning — they’re confronted with gendered expectations about family on the one hand, and sexist barriers to their career advancement on the other.

Dolores Huerta says she was shouted down with ‘English-only’ chants from a Sanders crowd

This article isn’t as fascinating as watching posts ‘defending and pretending’ about it from Bernie supporters on facebook. The absolutely visceral and hating rants are a jambalaya of obnoxiousness. There’s the spite, the persecution complex, the underlying belief that anyone else is evil outside of Bernie. Long story short, Bernie supporters and their comments on Hillary are why I fucking loathe progressives. They are the most close-minded, hateful, paranoid, and bigoted people ever and their affection for outrageous conspiracy theory doesn’t make them any appealing.

It’s like they think Hillary is the opponent, and not the GOP. It reminds me of how much I hated Obama’s ridiculously smalled-minded, tunnel-vision, impractical, holier-than-thou, and cognitively challenged supporters in ’08. Either group provides a damn good reason to block out anything their candidate is saying.

The prejudice against the mainstream isn’t nearly as striking as the tacit misogyny that none of them seem to notice they are all to willing to employ in their nasty put downs. If the best argument you have is to be snide and hostile to the other side, well you don’t have anything worthy of being supported in the first place.

It’s clear none of the obnoxious hipsters will be around in the General, it’d be nice if their snobby, bigoted asses went home, sat down, and shut the fuck up already, sooner than later.

Texas health official out of job over study favorable to Planned Parenthood

Rick Allgeyer, director of research at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, had teamed up with researchers from the University of Texas at Austin’s Population Research Center to look at what happened after Texas booted Planned Parenthood from its state-run Women’s Health Program in 2013.

Their study, which was published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine early this month, found that the number of women obtaining long-acting birth control (such as intrauterine devices and contraceptive shots) through state-funded family planning services dropped by about a third after the change. Meanwhile, low-income women who had previously been receiving injectable contraceptives from Planned Parenthood before the change saw their birth rate shoot up 27 percent.

Those women lived in counties that lost a Planned Parenthood clinic.

Texas Health Official Suddenly “Stepping Down” After Co-Authoring Study on Planned Parenthood

Apparently, studies that prove things with facts you disagree with are “biased” and heath officials should not be allowed to co-author studies about…women’s health…on taxpayer money. Because the absolute worst thing for a health official to do during work time is worry about healthcare for fifty percent of the state. At least, that seems to be the way they’re doing things in Texas.

When Bernie Sanders ran against me in VT – Madeleine Kunin, VT’s 1st Female Governor

…Both Clinton and Sanders have declared they are favor paid maternity and sick leave, and equal pay for equal work. What sets them apart? I believe it is both style and substance. Sanders can shout his message and wave his arms for emphasis. Clinton can’t. If she appeared on stage as angry at the “system” as he is, she would be dismissed as an angry, even hysterical, woman; a sight that makes voters squirm.

An angry female voice works against women but is a plus for men. It demonstrates passion, outrage and power. Sanders bristled when he was accused of sexism after he implied that Clinton was among the shouters. Ironically, it is he who has, according to his doctor, suffered from laryngitis.

*****

Sanders is brave, pairing Socialist with Democrat. And I agree with him on the growing cancer in America of income inequality and a democracy-threatening campaign finance system. He is a bold truth teller, and I am grateful that he has changed the conversation. He makes the answers sound easy, which in turn, makes him look authentic. But the answers are not simple. The word “complex” does not win applause in a political speech. Nuance is not welcomed. “We need a revolution,” is more powerful than “I have a plan.”

(Yeah, no shit. It’s like candidate Barack x10)

Dumb-ass stuff we need to stop saying to Dads

“Is Daddy on babysitting duty today?”

“Nope, he’s not a baby sitter.
He’s a parent. Y’know, like a Mum, except with a penis.”

*****

Sure, there are plenty of deadbeat Dads in the world. Believe me, I know this for certain. Equally, there are plenty of deadbeat Mums.

But the good Dads need to be part of our language of parenting.

*****

We only have to look at the smiling faces of mothers with children in magazines, movies, advertising and online to see where the media thinks the parenting-pendulum swings.

Dumb-ass stuff we need to stop saying to Dads. | Rosie Writes

Right the fuck on. Absolutely. I loved every word of this.

Is there a viewpoint that is more feminist that the one that holds that Dads can and should be equal participants in parenthood? I think not.

If I could wave a big magic wand over society I would make us stop categorizing each other based on our own preconceptions instead of the person standing right in front of us.

Parity can not be achieved unless we move towards treating one another as people and away from preconceptions. Relying on general labels rather than the actual context of a situation really limits what one can see and share.

Black Woman Creates Black Women Superhero Universe – The Root

^^^^^Read how this shit was captioned and then peep this quote from the article: ” I also could easily have made a black superhero universe but I wanted one that more accurately depicted the global community. Everyone deserves to see themselves in their entertainment.”

The title is the opposite of the freaking article! Fucking click-bait bullshit.
