Bratton Has ‘Strong Concerns’ About Arrest of a Mailman in Brooklyn

Members of the [Police Department’s Conditions Unit] are expected to work in uniform, [New York City’s police commissioner] Bratton said, and the officers who arrested Mr. Grays were wearing street clothes. After the arrest, which resulted in Mr. Grays being issued a summons for disorderly conduct, the officers were removed from their assignments and put on patrol pending an investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau, the commissioner said.

…The arrest forced Mr. Grays to leave a United States postal truck unattended, raising questions about potential violations of federal law regarding the interruption of mail delivery. A representative of the United States Postal Service said in an email last week that its Office of Inspector General was investigating the matter. That an unsecured truck had been left double-parked on a busy street after Mr. Grays was taken into custody “would be a significant issue of concern in terms of the investigation going forward,” Mr. Bratton said.

…In an interview last week, Mr. Grays said he was not given a seatbelt. On the way to the 71st Precinct, he said, the car struck a vehicle in front of it.

…Over the past six years at least three of the officers involved have been named in federal civil rights suits alleging false arrest, among other claims.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I can only hope the USPS throws the book at them and every officer is not only convicted of multiple charges but ends up in jail, where they so clearly belong.

California Jewish School Celebrates 8th Grader’s Gender Transition with Ceremony

[Tom] Sosnik’s Jewish ritualized coming out as transgender in front of classmates, teachers and family at the Tehiyah Day School in El Cerrito, California, is believed to be the first time that a Jewish day school has sanctioned and performed such a ceremony.

…The 40-minute ceremony …[which] included various blessings and readings from traditional Jewish sources about change and new beginnings, had the feel of a bar mitzvah crossed with a baby naming.

South L.A. Taco Stand Employee Shoots, Kills Would-Be Robber: LAPD | KTLA

A man who was allegedly trying to rob a South Los Angeles taco stand was fatally shot by an employee late Friday night, police said.

Whoa!  the very end of the article says the employees were temporarily detained. …Which had absolutely nothing to do with racism or heavy-handedness on the part of LAPD, I’m sure. (???!)

Sanders on Clinton’s Clooney fundraiser: ‘It is obscene’

Another problem with American politics: holier than thou asshole who hijack an entire party (they they are not fucking a member of and never have been!) nomination process accomplishing on the division of the electorate and strengthen the chances of common enemies. A school district encourages parents to opt their children out

The New Salem/Wendell School Committee unanimously passed a strongly-worded resolution, supporting and encouraging parents to opt their children out of PARCC tests this spring.

The resolution, passed on March 10, not only encourages parents to opt their children out of the state standardized test, it also encourages teachers and staff members to let parents know they have the choice of opting out. With this goal in mind, the district is holding a community meeting on March 28 to give parents a forum at which they can learn more and ask questions.

Rolling Stone Endorses Hillary Clinton for President

…the Sanders movement has a “contempt for compromise.”

Every time Sanders is challenged on how he plans to get his agenda through Congress and past the special interests, he responds that the “political revolution” that sweeps him into office will somehow be the magical instrument of the monumental changes he describes. This is a vague, deeply disingenuous idea that ignores the reality of modern America. With the narrow power base and limited political alliances that Sanders had built in his years as the democratic socialist senator from Vermont, how does he possibly have a chance of fighting such entrenched power?

I have been to the revolution before. It ain’t happening.

…Rolling Stone has championed the “youth vote” since 1972, when …Hunter S. Thompson wrote our first presidential-campaign coverage. We worked furiously for McGovern. We failed; Nixon was re-elected in a landslide. But those of us there learned a very clear lesson: America chooses its presidents from the middle, not from the ideological wings.

…When I consider what’s in their hearts, I think both Clinton and Sanders come out on the side of the angels; but when I compare their achievements in the past decades, the choice is clear. This is not the time in history for a “protest vote.”

On the question of experience, the ability to enact progressive change, and the issue of who can win the general election and the presidency, the clear and urgent choice is Hillary Clinton.

If You’re Liberal and You Think Hillary Clinton Is Corrupt and Untrustworthy, You’re Rewarding 25 Years of GOP Smears –

Obviously, Clinton carries with her more than 25 years in the white-hot public spotlight that Sanders doesn’t — despite his career in the Senate — and over that length of time people have been able to form opinions of her and they’re ones not likely to change at this point. What you know about Hillary is what you know about Hillary. There aren’t a lot of surprises. Maybe you figure this is bad for her, but in truth it can be argued that this is a positive rather than a negative because there’s nothing the Republicans can throw at her that we haven’t already been fed to death. And when you take a step back and look at Clinton objectively — which is admittedly difficult for many, even, or maybe particularly, on the left — that’s exactly the point. Hillary Clinton’s reputation is largely the result of a quarter century of visceral GOP hatred.

Someone wrote ‘Trump 2016’ on Emory’s campus in chalk. Some students said they no longer feel safe.

After Emory University students awoke to messages written in chalk around campus in support of Trump, a group protested and met with the president to decry the “intimidation.”

I’m trying not to roll my eyes here. The students’ hearts are in the right place. They just need to take their heads out of their asses.

Suppressing dissent does not alleviate it.

Being confronted with something you disagree with shouldn’t affect whether or not you feel “safe.” It isn’t about entitlement, it is about what is right.

If something bothers you, don’t whine. Confront it!
