I don’t know enough about the long-term weather conditions to accept that the drought was caused by climate change. I do accept that climate change is happening. I accept that humans are accelerating the process. It could very well be that human action driven climate change is the cause of the drought in Syria but I have way of judging that statement.
Insufficient response to crisis combined with a scarcity of poorly dispersed resources resulting in immense conflict? That theory I can get behind.
