Pelosi wanted the progressives to be mindful of moderate Democrats, who were responsible for winning a majority in the House last election cycle. 

“A majority is a fragile thing,” she said, according to two meeting-goers who spoke to The Washington Post anonymously. “You make me the target, but don’t make our [moderates] the target in all of this, because we have important fish to fry.”

The more the Democrats fight, the greater the win for conservatives.
