Michelle Obama and the Delusion of Hecklers | TIME.com
“Sturtz and her allies …are apparently ignorant of the fact that successful activism also requires a good sense of how and when to pick your battles. Not to mention an understanding of precisely who in the White House wields power.”
Oh my goodness, what effective and pithy snark! Speaking of ignorance about successful activism, somebody needs to go back and retrace the steps of the equality movement from Stonewall, to Harvey Milk, through the AIDS crisis to current day. They would find many, many instances of this technique being employed.
Someone also needs to pull their holier than thou suburban progressive head out of their ass. Who wields power over public opinion and the politicos? Um, that’d be the press. Who follows Mrs. Obama around? Um, that’d be the national press. If you want to draw attention to a cause and put a speaker on the spot so they are forced to pay attention to issues they’d rather ignore, doing in front of the national press is more effective than waiting for the polite time.
Oh, boo hoo, Michelle Obama who willingly stepped into the spotlight when she drop-kicked her career to support her man, was confronted over something that isn’t her fault. And she was a holier than thou, patronizing bitch about it. Wah,wah, wah, all the way back to the sanctimony of suburban sell-outs Jezebel.
