Bombing Suspects’ Uncle: They Do Not Deserve To Live On This Earth « CBS Boston

My gawd, this bit is better than any other segment I saw in a week of coverage.

Listening to this radio interview has been one of the most intense parts of this week. Most of the news media were scrambling along like some sort of garish, bumbling, seedy, caricatures of ineptitude; blatantly and crassly paying no heed to due diligence or getting it right. This phone conversation has more drama, subtly, depth and humanity than any and all of that garbage put together.

He doesn’t hesitate to condemn them and truly sounds horrified. You get a sense of the the calibre and timbre of this man’s heart and a deep strength of character. Is he really at all that different than than the average person on the street? No, here not. and that is what makes it so amazing to hear this exchange. A horrified man, who loves the United States and has made his life here reacts to learning the details of his nephews’ story is so normal. It is what what you would hope to hear from anyone in that position.

Remarkable segment. It neutralizes the religious or politico-ethnic routes the story can take and plays up the common humanity in us all. Play up the mosaic of faces that make up this country (to paraphrase the Mayor.)

I kept think today, as I made my way through Boston, that the hands behind the curtain have a chance to do this right; to handle this correctly, to neutralize hazard instead of wantonly stirring powder kegs. The powers that be have the chance to handle this by the spirit of our American ideals and the letter of the law.

I saw this guy’s press conference the next day and I got the same impression of him. I liked him. Loved his explanation of why he thought they did it. Losers who were angry and jealous of other’s ability to settle. I was rooting for him when he was asked what he thought of the United States and I thought he answered it honestly, passionately and brilliantly. Struck all the right notes. Seems like a hell of a guy. The phone interview was something else though. Whoa…

Cable news and murdochia exposed themselves as total chumps this week. The local outlets did well by their public. Nuff Said.

(Pssst, BHO, I was just starting to like you. I really like the way things have gone so far: the tone of officials, cooperation & coordination, the national press were little bitches but it didn’t seem to hurt anything and perhaps that helped confuse the brothers, the fact it worked… Please continue to make this doubter proud throughout the rest of this story.)
