The Malaysian government has introduced a new law to limit detentions of people suspected of terrorism or security offences. The proposed law, designed to replace legislation that allowed indefinite detention without trial, states that a suspect may be detained for the purposes of an investigation and that, after 28 days, the public prosecutor must either send the case to trial or release the suspect.
