Israeli protests against sex discrimination by ultra-Orthodox Jewish sects. – Slate Magazine
And yet another reason for us not to recognize Israel’s special status, and another reason to not recognize religious states. Yes, to be clear, I am saying that the US position should be that Israel should only be allowed to exist a secular nation and we shouldn’t recognize its sovereignty until it becomes one.
OK that’s totally impractical. It’s already a country we recognize the sovereignty of. We should continue to do so. It’s the right thing to do. The whole religious litmus test for rights of citizenship things is not anything we, as Americans, should ever support, under any circumstances though.
It beyond irks me to see US foreign policy rubber-stamp institutionalized religion &/or ethnic bigotry. Really f’ing pisses me off. I am for the continuation of an Israeli state. I also think that they need to knock that shit off right quick.
I really think that Hamas misses a huge opportunity to seize the high road by not recognizing the potential for Israeli legitimacy. They can do so without recognizing any legitimacy to the way Israel conducts itself. If they did so, they would open the road for Israeli government types who are in favor of ceasing to kick sand in others faces (there have to be some fuddy-duddy kill-joys so to speak, right?) to gather momentum for recognizing the legitimacy of various groups without being seen to at all be legitimizing, giving in or at all expressing approval for actions of these groups which Israel has historically expressed contempt for.
…And now back to your regularly scheduled programming of ranting, raving and dropping the f-bomb.
