Police search for child removed from cancer ward – TODAY Health

This pisses me off.

If I understand the story correctly, the legal guardian of a child removed that child from a hospital -against doctors’ orders- where the child had received care for a serious illness. While spending a month at the hospital the child had recived a level of care which allowed an infection to claim her arm.

The child is under the care of the custodial guardian &it doesn’t sound like she was receiving tip top medical attention.

Yet somehow the medical staff was given the autority to over-rule the decision of a custodial parent and impose their recomendations literally as law. when the mother decided to remove the child against medical advice the medical community set the police after her like she was a criminal.

Is it is a crime to not take doctors’ advice?

If there was no pre-existing evidence of child endangerment or child abuse, what right did the hospital have to overrule her decision like she had committed a crime and then villify her a nefarious kidnapper in the national news media? Whether or not one agrees with the mother’s decision; if she had custody, she is not a kidnapper.
When did a doctor’s advice become law that you could be criminally liable for not taking? That’s not even taking into account the fact that the hospital had allowed an infection to take up such agressive residence in the girl’s arm that it had to be amputated. Who are they to accuse anyone of exposing the child to the risk of infection?

Refusing to follow doctors advice is not, and should not be, a criminally prosecuted event. That is ridiculous. Where is the respect for autonomy? It is downright un-American.

If the young girl was going to be released the following day what is the problem here? Other than medical professionals on a power trip and a society nanny-state enough to allow this bullshit to be treated as a kidnapping by the national news.

It’s slanted, unbalanced and everything else that is wrong with the US News media today. I hope the woman took the child to a better facility, sues the pants off the hospital she removed her child from and wins.
