Soap Operas are a uniquely American expression of high camp comedrama.
GH has been doing some great things in terms of playing to its audience with the inside jokes and references. The writing itself has been great. Heavy on the comedy and irony. Even the Disney owned movie promotional tie-ins were appealing.
I hope that ABC/Disney are behind keeping GH on the air for the long term. It has a consistent audience (and for gawds sake it is so much less annoying than any of the daytime chatter!!!)
I don’t understand aspects of the business plan though. Sure, you don’t want to leave a months worth of the most recent episodes up on hulu. If you do that you aren’t driving your audience to keep up with things and keep tuning in. I get that part.
Why they hell don’t they make older stuff available though? It is the best marketing for the show ever! Pop some older episodes a few years at a time up on iTunes or Amazon or something. .99/episode. People would buy multiple episodes to follow the storyline they like best. that should encouraged by allowing viewers to fast forward, etc. easily. Have highlight episodes – Nurses Ball, hostage situations, what-have you for 4.99 a pop or something.
It would be very low cost to ABC/Disney. The actors etc. could be paid in percentages of percentages of pennies which may or may not ever add up to anything. The videos allow people in indulge in nostalgia for old characters and storylines and perhaps even draw them back to the show. New viewers can figure out who characters are. The show get exposure and ABC/Disney ending making money on the promotion.
I know everyone is busy from buying Star Wars but it’s a simple thing, Please?
