someone asked me last night what I thought of this.

I said it is a smart play.

Obama is losing the support of his progressive base. He had to give them something because he sure as heck isn’t going to improve education, put teeth in the EPA, go after the individuals responsible for the banking and mortgage crisis, lift up the poverty stricken, unions, create jobs for the middle class, support small business, refuse to compromise on women’s reproductive issues, or address the race and economic class based caste system being created by our nation’s injustice system, etc. etc…

If he has to pick one special interest group on the left to cave in to, why not pick the group that is the best organized and well funded? And if you can appeal to that group with an issue that basically no one on the left will disagree with you on you can collect a lot of other passes on all of the other issues the left cares about.

Smart play.

ok, to split hairs, there aren’t that many people, on the left or otherwise, that prioritize changing the justice sytem so we don’t end up with a mostly race but also socio-economic class caste based society as one of their top issues. true story
