BBC News – Women in face veils detained as France enforces ban

The French government says the face-covering veil undermines the basic standards required for living in a shared society and also relegates its wearers to an inferior status incompatible with French notions of equality.

I’m with that interpreation, if you have to cover your face to leave your home and interact with the larger society around you, you might as well just stay home.

I find the veils that cover the face offensive. It is an insult to all of the generations of women who struggled to acheive measures of freedom and equality.

I also feel that the idea that a woman needs to cover up because men can’t control themselves insulting to the very idea of motherhood. If a woman can not raise a young man who can control his own urges she sucks at being a mother and shouldn’t have children anyways. A man who can not take responsibility for his own actions is not a man, he is a child.
