Dancing Soldiers on YouTube: A Civilian's Guide to the Brave New Meme – Soldier lady gaga – Gawker
Among the frequent reactions to modern media/society I regularly try to avoid letting exit my mouth is annoyance at the Puritanical-disguised-as-politically-correct impulse everyone seems to have to label absolutely fucking everything.
Yes, it is very important for society to be inclusive but jeezus-fucking-king-of-the-jews maybe one way to make sure minorities are more smoothly integrated into the society the majority shares with them is too stop fucking looking for them everywhere.
Scholars trying to decide if letters written hundreds of years ago mean historical figures were gay is no less futile than trying to prove that the same historical figures were Christians, or atheists, in favor of a free market wall street or against illegal immigration. Get over it people. Every generation sees things in the context of the society they live in so we’ll never be able to know.
The same little reflex flinches at a lot of shit. Like the tone of this Gawker post. Oh Christ? Really, we’re going to watch a bunch of young guys dancing and try and decide if they are gay? Upon examination all of the videos Gawker highlights for us end up looking just like what they actually are.
What is that you ask?
Footage of a bunch of young guys doing what young guys do best: entertain themselves by being seriously, seriously goofy. Why read into it more than that? We can’t possibly be as bored as they are, can we? That’s just sad.
Why can’t we just be happy to learn that yes, when they are bored enough, white guys can dance too? Now that’s progressive!
