And damn well we should. A parent is a parent. You can’t quit. Neglecting your child is a crime whether they are biologically yours or not. Neglecting your child is a crime whether or not parenthood is what you thought it would be. There is no warranty on a child; no grace period. You can not return a child. If you try; you shouldn’t have been a parent in the first place. What does US law (hopefully) do to lousy parents? Prosecute them for neglect.
